Dr. Robert David Billington, flutist - 305-409-3284 - rdbflute@gmail.com

Here is some information regarding availability for students in my private flute studio this summer.

I am available for flute lessons at the student’s location and/or by Skyping.

I am also available for flute sectionals and master classes at schools. I currently have an vendor number for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, am a flute specialist adjunct for John A. Ferguson HS and for Doral Academy HS, and am the flute coach for the South Florida Youth Symphony.

My “on location” fee is very reasonable and ranges from $50-$75/hr depending on location and travel time.

Please feel free to circulate this information to anyone you think may be interested.

My web site at http://www.rdbflute.com includes a page, http://www.rdbflute.com/fbainfo.html, with the All-State audition requirements and free, downloadable scale sheets.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Now Accepting New Flute Students

(Concert Flute, Piccolo, and Baroque Flute)

Flutist Dr. Robert David Billington, author of A Description and Application of Robert Aitken's Concept of the Physical Flute, http://www.rdbflute.com/RDBDE.html, is now accepting new flute students. Dr. Billington is a free-lance flutist in the S FL area. He received his DMA in flute performance from the University of Miami and performs as principal flutist with the Miami Lyric Opera Orchestra and as principal and solo baroque flutist with the Camerata del Ré, an early music group in Delray Beach, FL.

Dr. Billington has openings for students of all ages and abilities, from student and adult beginners to advanced flutists of all ages, including college and professional level students. Dr. Billington teaches at the students' locations throughout the S FL area. The fee ranges from $50-70/hr depending upon travel time and distance.

Dr. Billington will also be teaching flute lessons at the SFYS Summer Music Academy from June 19 - July 14 at the Miami-Dade College North Campus. Please contact Mrs. Hahn, SFYS Director, for more information. 305-238-2729

What can Dr. Billington offer flute students?

Recent student achievements include placements in all-district bands in Broward and Palm Beach Counties, including 1st chair flute in the PBC All-District Middle School Band. Another of his students, a HS sophomore, received a grade of Superior on a Grade 7 piece at the state level Solo and Ensemble Contest! One of his South Florida Youth Symphony students performed a solo with the SFYS as a contest winner and also received a gold medal for her performance of the Bizet Entr-acte at the WorldStrides Onstage Presidential Inauguration Festival.

Beginning flutists get started right. They will be ready for band in the fall!

Middle and High School Flutists experience Summer Flute Boot Camp (1-3 private lessons/week), developing tone, technique, and intonation, and can work on FBA audition and Solo and Ensemble materials. http://www.rdbflute.com/fbainfo.html

Returning and college-bound students prepare college lesson and ensemble materials for band and orchestra seating and teacher auditions when fall classes resume. Remember you only have one chance to make a first impression!

(This can help getting placed in the desired ensemble and can make the difference in getting the main teacher or a TA!)

Students learn how to change from a band sound to a soloistic orchestra sound.

Band directors can learn more effective means of dealing with the difficulties of flute playing.

Beginning adult students learn an ergonomic means of playing flute based on scientific principles.

Advanced adult flutists continue to improve as they develop their tone, their technique,

and learn to play the flute in tune and with greater facility.

Adults interested in baroque music can learn the one-keyed traverso while learning the intricacies of playing baroque music.

Please call Dr. Billington at 305-409-3284 for more information and to book private lessons.

Recent Kudos to Dr. Billington for performances on modern and baroque flutes.

On Concert Flute

MLO Puccini Operas - “Under Doris Lang Kosloff’s assured direction, the orchestra sounded remarkably secure and vibrant. Robert Billington’s silvery flute solos commanded attention.” Lawrence Budman - South Florida Classical Review.

MLO Carmen - “One bright spot was the fine playing of principal flute Robert Billington, who gave a warm and evocative account of the long Entr’acte melody leading into Act 3.” David Fleshler, South Florida Classical Review.

MLO L’Elisir d’Amore - “The playing included lustrous solo flute (Robert Billington) and harp (Ana Maria Bolivar) playing in the overture." Robert Carreras, OperaToday.com

MLO Marina - “Robert Billington’s flute, brought Arrieta’s colorful instrumental writing to the fore.” Lawrence Buman, South Florida Classical Review.

On Baroque Flute

“Robert Billington’s lithe, agile Baroque flute animated Benda’s Sonata No.2 in G Major, a melodically delightful soufflé. The brilliance and energy of Billington’s reading of the final Allegro was particularly distinguished.” Lawrence Budmen, South Florida Classical Review.

“The program concluded with Myslivicek’s lightweight Trio in B-flat Major… Billington, Buckton, Alamilla and Paulson-Thorp gave the score their best efforts, … and the concluding Menuetto was particularly lovely and elegant.” Lawrence Budmen,  South Florida Classical Review.
